Making impact during your sales interview

Let’s discuss the sales interview process:

  1. You will have a phone screen with human resources or the hiring sales manager.
  2. You will have face-to-face interviews with multiple individuals. Expect at a minimum of three interviews.
  3. You will have a field ride with a territory manager.

Phone Screen/1st Interview

You will normally have a phone screen before a sit down interview.  It is challenging to get across what you're about the phone.  Not having that person in the room with you, you do not have the opportunity to make adjustments based off of the person’s body language. Smile when you speak and visualize the interviewer in the room with you.

Your interviews

You will be asked behavioral interview questions during your interviews. Behavioral interview questions ask different scenario questions to see how you'd act in different situations.  Past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior.

There are number of sales attributes that the best sales representatives have. You will see each of these attributes touched on in different behavioral questions that you're asked during the interview.  Think about experiences and stories in which you're able to demonstrate your impact in each of these areas.

Post-Interview Self Critique

Jot down notes about the things you did well, and areas you need to improve. This will give you the opportunity to refine the way you approach your next the interview. It will help you get to the next level of proficiency. Even if the position wasn’t what you were dying for, you need to use what you learned to get strong to the sales position you want.

Field ride with territory manager
