Broadcast Letter and Resume

Your sales broadcast letter and resume describe “You” to the reader.  You need to make sure that your sales broadcast letter and resume convey your sales perseverance, professionalism, and experience. We need to first develop a resume that will demonstrate your ability to make things happen.  As a sales person, you'll be charged with the task of over achieving goals/objectives with minimal supervision.  Your resume needs to convey to the reader you're likelihood that you will be a success.  The first decision you need to make is what is most important reader and not you.  The person reviewing your resume is going to scan quickly multiple resumes at one time and select a couple candidates to be contacted.  Make a determination based on your experience and education what will differentiate you the most to the reader.

We like using the words “broadcast letter” as opposed to “cover letter”, because we need to make sure that if the broadcast letter is only item read that it makes impact.  The broadcast letter needs to have the ability to stand on its own. After completing a resume, you will take three accomplishments and weave them into a sales broadcast letter. In some situations, a broadcast letter is the only item that you send out. The broadcast letter is a concentrated version of your resume.

Try your hardest to take the sales resume down to one page.  If you resume is over two pages, it will be very unlikely that a person reviewing your resume will look at the additional pages.  Your broadcast letter will be one page and will provide a call to action to set up a personal interview.
